There are many industries around the world that have been impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic, but maybe none more so than the airline industry.
Whenever you are carrying millions of people around the world from country to country, the chance of viral and infection transference has always been present. During 2020 these issues became the number one key concern for the commercial aviation industry, so much so, that with lockdown restrictions, international and even domestic airline travel ceased almost completely.
As restrictions lift and the industry comes back to life, the ability to maintain hygienic, sanitary, bacteria and virus free environments, both in the air and around terminals, may be the key to the industries survival.
DuroKleen is a vital player in this regard.
As identified by the IATA, (International Air Transport Association.) and governments worldwide, the challenge the industry faces in returning to full carriage is to avoid the transference of COVID-19, MRSA (methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus, a type of bacteria that is resistant to several antibiotics.), Staph, H1N1, and many more prevalent viruses and bacteria.
There are four avenues by which transmission of pathogens can occur in the airline industry:
- Respiratory droplets and airborne particles can be directly inhaled.
- Fecal matter, blood or other bodily fluids can be directly contacted.
- All the above elements can also be transferred to surfaces and reside in ventilation systems, and thus be transmitted to maintenance crews.
- Infected people can transmit infections to other passengers either through the air or via infected surfaces.
The inevitable space restrictions imposed by commercial airflight means that communicable diseases are more easily transmitted.
There are many different areas of airplanes that need to be kept clean and sanitized. Within the seating areas you have: arm rests, tray tables, headphone ports, head rests and buttons, seat belts, clips and buckles. Within luggage compartments you have: hand rails, luggage shelving and handles. When we examine the lavatories there are: the toilet, taps, soap dispensers, handles, hand rails and towel dispensers. The cabin crew will be circulating with drinks and food trolleys. And then on top of all these items we have consumables such as: cups, bottles, flight itineraries, flight instructionals and magazines. As you can see there are a plethora of surfaces that can harbour bacteria and viruses, and become contaminated, if not attended to properly.
Utilising the DuroKleen range of cleaners and disinfectants solves all these potential problems before they occur.
Earlier this year, we announced the completion of our revolutionary new cleaning product, DuroPax. Developed over 12 months in conjunction with the Virgin Australia team, the objective was to improve cabin, lounge and common area hygiene. During rigorous testing to ensure it adhered to Virgin’s and Boeing’s specifications in safety, environment and performance, it was proven to be Class Leading.
DuroPax, our 2 in 1 cleaning and disinfecting solution halved cleaning time, and reduced stock control issues, (especially important in the airline industry as storage space is always at a premium). DuroPax was also actually shown to lift staff morale because it was such a positive and timely solution to cleanliness challenges!
Of course regular aircraft Deep Cleans are also now recommended practice throughout the industry, and DuroKleen long term hospital grade disinfectant should be a key part of this procedure. It’s long term antimicrobial biostatic barrier, gives your cabin crew, your cleaning brigade and ultimately your customers peace of mind that they are operating in and inhabiting a safe, sanitary environment.
DuroKleen can also be utilised as a hand sanitiser for extra insurance against germs, bacteria and viruses.
The last cog in our wheel of effectiveness is DuroDaily, which if kept within handy reach, allows cabin crew team members to deal with any unexpected cleaning challenges that might happen in-flight.
If you are set with the task of ordering cleaning products for an airline please contact one of our DuroKleen industry Field Officers, who with their experience of your industry, will be able to advise you on our range and appropriate quantities.
Don’t forget DuroKleen is now Boeing and Airbus Australia approved.
We wish you happy, clean, and safe flying!
